Box Mine, Wiltshire - August 2010

I've been down to sunny Wiltshire a fair few times recently, enjoying the pleasant countryside but largely enjoying the stuff below her, in particular numerous Bath stone mines. Box mine, near Corsham was one such place. I visited with Ojay and a few dozen others as part of a big trip, and it was good

Mining of Bath Stone at Box dates back to the Roman era and ceased in the late 1960s with a peak in production during the 19th century, today it is a Site of Special Scientific Interest due its huge bat population and its vast size makes it a popular haunt for mine explorers.
