I'm a bit confused as to the true identity of this mill. Casual research on the internet would suggest it is called Albert Mill, and locally it also seems that this is the name it is known by. However a bit more digging around and it all gets a bit complicated. A stone's through away is a big mill complex, possibly known as Orama Mills, now mostly demolished, that seems to fit the online historical descriptions of Albert Mill far more than this site. For example one website states Albert Mill was designed by famed Oldham mill architect Joseph Stott, but this puppy here is far removed from his grander style - a style which fits Orama mill to a tee. Also according to one source the Albert Mill boasted 651 looms, and I can't see how they would have fit into this pretty small building - maybe other sections have been demolished, there are certainly some more modern warehouse structures on site that could have once been the footprint for weaving sheds and the like.
Anyway I'm not 100% convinced of what the place is called and I know we all have a lazy propensity to believe everything on the internet is correct, when it could easily be confused or false. Anyway if anyone knows the true identity please let me know.
Not the most exciting of sites, but it had a parochial charm, much like myself.
The old lift, or elevator to our Stateside viewers
In the basement, it was pleasantly damp and musty in here
And finally in one of the numerous out buildings
