Arrow Welsh Wander - August 2009

Had a bit of a road trip at the weekend, mainly to have a last look at Denbigh, some other neglected sites in the region and to quell my curiosity of a few places on my 1948 OS map of the Denbigh region.

    First stop, Denbigh:

I first visited Denbigh about 2 or 3 years ago on a 28DL meet. Since then the place has suffered greatly from the elements, and it was very sad to see it collapsing to ruin. Many floors have fallen through.

    Next stop, Hafodunas Hall.

I have been meaning to visit this place for years but never bothered. Wish I had now because this place was wonderful.

Lowther College looked intriguing, so I had to find out if it was there:

Didn't see anything of note though other than Bodelwyddan Castle, so on to Rhyl, and to see if this hospital was still there:

It wasn't. Now part of a holiday camp.

A quick stop at Talacre to see the old lighthouse:

Then down to Star Crossing Station near Rhydymwym.

Me and R1 has the opportunity of being the FTF this last year but I sadly poo-poo'ed it, giving Sallybear the chance to be the first

Then finally down to Coed Talon to look at the old school:

That looks like a great trip mate. That station is very nice indeed.

    Hafodunas Hall is gorgeous!

Yep, gotta agree with Elvis on both counts.

Nice job mate, very good. I do like Hafodunas Hall, and top marks for inclusion of pretty laydee. Good idea with the whole maps thing too

Liking the look of Hafodunos Hall – those gothic arches are neat.
