Default Rockley Engine House & Blast Furnace. Jan '12.

On the way to do the weekly big shop yesterday, I stuck my little Fuji in my pocket and stopped off at the woods to take a few snaps of this little place. Thought I'd share.

Rockley Blast Furnace was built between 1698 and 1704 to smelt the local Iron Ore. Part of the stack and inner heat resistant sandstone lining remains. Most of the exterior dressings/facings and the hearth have long gone.

A hundred yards away sits the Engine House.
Rockley Engine House is a large, castellated walled tower built in 1813 and once housed a Newcommon engine that was used to pump water from the nearby Iron Workings. The engine is long gone - possibly removed around 1870, but the imposing tower remains.

    Here's the snaperoonies:

What a cracking place, I cant get enough of this type of thing, our industrial history is amazing and all should be preserved. Looks like this place is in a lovely setting as well, great photos, well done.
