This was 2 trips this one, 2 old reports from the old mill down seacombe docks from Jan 07 and the return trip in July 07, thought id stick them together and make one post
I went to secondary school not far from the docks, was always a god place to head for when bunking off a afternoon so i can remember it in use although for certain not as busy as it would of been in the docks heyday. There was 5 mills here from what i recall including a enormous silo. Another one of the mills got blown up maybe 20 years ago but they only managed to succeed in shifting the building about 10 ft to one side, total botched job!! its all gone now thou sadly and just 2 mills remain
The wind was a bit crazy and it was raining so didn't bother with external shots, first way we tried to get in didn't lead anywhere, just to a set of steps with no doors after that farce we headed down to the far end and into the silos themselves
Spooky place that is, unfortunatly the door at the end leading into the rest of the mill was blocked with a forklift truck so backout into the rain past a inhabbited caravan around round the other side to our third enterence!
Wonder now its converted if this still exists
Heading for the roof now!!! The old wooden steps seemed typical of old working enviroments like these.
Sadly the wether runined any photo opertunitys from up top but its a killer view as others have said, i so wanna do it in daylight!!!
The amount of wooden features inside got me thinking about how fast the place would of gone up in flames back in the day if there had been a fire. Needles to say there was the odd warning sign and fire related items
Spent a good 2 hours in all inside, well worth it for the views alone!! Across the river to Liverpool in the distance in this last one
Ok so a return trip was need about 6 months later to see what was going on so i went back in July
The side i thought was best, where all the silos were is just one large shell now, all the floors have gone on the inside. Looks weird...annoyingly my pics of it came out blurred.....
As for the other side of the building, well the stairs have all been ripped out to be replaced with these metal ones, which means theres no access to the tower right now but you can still get on the roof, just not all the way to the high spot, decent view anyway thou
This view is interesting, the U boat has been chopped up and has gone and all the warehouse behind is flattened, also the East Float Tower is in the distance (i put a old report from that up the other day)
All the old original features inside seem to have gone and the windows as well, understandable thou i guess. From what i can tell once its done only the facade will be original on one side of the building and these pillars will be left on the other side.
One thing that still remains however is the smell, still stinks of flour, gonna have to do something about that before they sell them
Over 12 months later this is the place all complete with plenty of empty flats no one has bought!!!
