Post COLD WAR JETS DAY - BRUNTINGTHORPE. 2011

This coming Sunday, 29 May 2011 is the first of this years Cold War Jets Collection Open day, with all aircraft performing full power taxi runs along the main runway

If you have never seen a lightning do a full power run up? Then get down here
Also the Victor and the Nimrod will be running as well

Also have the heads up that the Vulcan XH558, is also dropping in and will be landing on the Saturday, for static display for Sunday. It is believed to be taking off on the Monday for Robin Hood Airport (formerly RAF Finningley)

Me and BK will be there to bring you a report later

Is the Buccaneer project still at Bruntingthorpe? I had an invite to visit a few years ago in return for a couple of boxes of Aeroplane but I never managed to get around to it.

Oh crap the boss has found out we are skiving

If you come to the air show you can see such awesome sights as this, the lightning with flames

But be warned I cant confirm this as from what i've heard the lightning isn't running this year due to having some engine troubles or something.

There ain't going to be that many chances that you will see two active ex RAF Cold War heavy bombers together in one place on an airfield than at Brunty on Sunday

The Victor and the Vulcan, couple this together with the Nimrod, and you have some of the heaviest CW aircraft ever displayed in one place for sure, and its for ONE DAY ONLY
    See you there

Just got round to reporting on this

It was a really good day, with the weather holding off and some unexpected aircraft buzzing the field?
here are some pics of the day

For the first time, since there withdrawal from RN service, a line-up of three Buccanner's took to the strip to do a fast taxi

Always a favourite, the Lightning never fails to impress The roar of those engines when the after- burners kick in is something to hear!

Unexpected visitor were two Army Sea king helicopters that were passing overhead, they radioed the tower and asked permission to fly over the field! The one above was in Arctic Camo!

The Nimrod, is the newest aircraft added to the fleet, it arrived last year. Couple this with the only original Comet still in a rolling condition, and another rare sighting was in store

This ex USAF "Foamer" was ace It chased the big aircraft up the runway everytime they ran

XH558 rounded off the day with a take off

    Thanks for looking

Very cool, that Seaking is in a Falklands war commemorative scheme, they don't use that arctic cammo any more, and for extra geek points its a Westland Commando not a seaking :P
