High on a hill over this lovely Welsh town lay the discarded remains of RAF Prestatyn. The site consists of modern comms masts for BT and the North Wales Police and the remains of the old ROTOR station built there in 1953 and then closed again a few years later in 1958. By this time, the ROTOR 3 plan had been scrapped.

The HUGE R11 operations block is sealed solid and I MEAN solid. It is/was used by the local gun club and is as well protected as you would expect a bunker to be. The R11 ROTOR bunkers were basically an R1 (like Bempton) bunker but built as a super strong surface building. Other remains include the standby house which is now a cowshed and a Type 14 Radar building and mount.

Most hate these old Cold War sites but I love them so you will keep seeing them appear, sorry LOL :elvis More on Subbrit HERE (http://www.subbrit.org.uk/rsg/sites/p/prestatyn/index.html)

The lovely view from the top of the Type 14 radar building.

No apologies needed. Derelict buildings, rusting metal, sunshine. Seems good to me. It's nice that these places of great importance are still aound, and are very important still, just to the animal community. Looks pretty solid. What was down the hole?

Lovely to look at from up there, on the streets is probably a bit more "realistic" LOL :w00t

It is very 'realistic' mate - my ex was from that neck of the woods and it's a pretty depressing area these days - great in Victorian times though.
