Questions like these make me happy!

Your right.

From driver's left we have;

1) Automatic air brake handle- Used when working as a train

2) Straight Air Brake- Used when working as loco only

3) Horn

4) Power handle- I THINK button on handle was used to stab the brakes in the event of wheelslip.

5) Direction/ engine only

Also if anyone wonders why there is a footpedal it was the Driver's Safety Device and if the driver failed to press it every so often the brakes would apply automatically assuming the driver was asleep or dead.

hee hee, i thought that was what the button on the power handle was for, kind of a dead man's brake sort of thing!
Did sit and press the pedal and wonder if that was what made it go.... lol!
there seems an awful lot of ways of making this thing stop isnt there?!!!!

Did it not seem odd that the steering wheel wasn't facing forward???

I'm pretty certain the button is wheelslip, there is a warning light to tell the driver wheel slip is occuring, and he presses the button. Wheelslip is most likey to occur as friction between rail and wheel is overcome as the driver increases power. It is electrically detected by monitoring sudden changes in the motors current demand, and can do serious damage to traction motors if ignored.

There is a handle among the valve gear known as a Drivers safety device (commonly known as 'deadmans' or DSD) isolator, which is used when using the loco as a pair. It is normally sealed with a lead tag, but these were often missing.

Another safety feature is the AWS, which is designed to give audible notice of signals and also bring the brakes on if the drivers misses a red signal. The AWS apparatus is located on the bulkhead to one side of the engine room door, it is green and has a few white pipes running to it.

The curiously shaped red bell is just a fire bell.

ah, cool!
I'm showing my inner nerd here but thats quite interesting!
My dad is a train driver, he drives the metro now and i always loved sitting in the drivers cab with him when i was little(er)

Plans involve reopening a section of closed line, would it be between harrogate and york?

The station house near the A1 is to go.

Do you know which section theoss? Also where's the station house?
