Hello everybody, we are new to this forum, so thought we’d fire straight in and post up a report for an old Mink farm near Huddersfield we visited last Sunday.

Apologies if this isn’t up to scratch – but it’s our first one and loved doing it, if not for the fact it got a bit edgy at some points! :(

We found out about this place through a friend who used to go and play near there as a kid in the seventies. Not been able to find out much about the place, except that it closed in approximately November 1989. Apparently, hundreds of mink were let out by activists at one point, but we are unsure if this is the reason for its closure.
Probably more to do with pressure from lobby groups.

Quite an eerie place, completely uninviting…..

There are 13 sheds lined up down the hillside. Access was pretty poor due to the wildlife, but managed to get to the few nearer the top of the site.

We ventured into the solitary building at the top of the farm, that was probably used fro the loading and unloading of the mink, due to being at the top of the driveway. The offices were on the top floor….

MMMM!...

Noticed this scary looking device in one of the pitch black back rooms. Was probably for stretching and drying the skins?...

Off into the many mink sheds….

Thirsty work back in the eighties…

Date born, parent details etc..These tickets were everywhere above the many remaining cages….

Someone hoped they’d be lucky…

Imagine the workers went through a few of these overalls…..

Cages and nesting boxes everywhere – hundreds of them. Thanks for looking. :thumb

Spooky place, great pictures:thumb

I dont think the stupid activists realise that releasing these vicious little vermin wrecks the wildlife.

There have been no slinky minky in there for ages, some of the little critters seem to have expired in situ so to speak.

When I posted this on DP, I got hate PMs from people like I was responsible or something....madness

Crazy, shame these actavists of any kind don't realise that half the animals wouldn't have been bread if it wasn't for a purpose. As long as they are treated well whilst alive then I really don't see the big issue.

I don't see the big issue with testing on animals either...would they [refer babies to be used? lol

Nice pictures mate, and also nicely written report too. Looks an interesting explore with an amazing amount still to see after so many years. Good one.

Just like the big angry debate that arose on there back in early 2006 when I posted Huntingdon Life Sciences site in Wilmslow for the first time. Sadly it's gone now. :(

Nice shots by the way guys(sounds like there's more than one of you?) :D

Well I for one am a firm defender of animal rights, but i will not be fire-bombing your house for doing a report on a mink farm :thumb

But fuck the fucks who owned it and may all their children have small dicks - especially the girls.

...Oh yeah nice report mate :D

...especially the girls.

^^LOL :ohmy

Animal testing is wrong but some people on Derp (and 28DL for that matter) seemed unable to grasp that what they were looking at was just another report for just another site.

When we got back we started looking into the ins and outs and history of Mink farming and a lot werent weren't treat right. Its horrible to see.

best not knowing what went on here to be honest.

The next one we do, we'll do something nice like a playground or abandoned funhouse lol...mind you, they can be sinister too......

Yes Saul...there is 2 of us!:p ;)

Cheers for the nice comments guys
